Why your HEIC photos will not open

Since iOS 11, iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC by default. The format stores the same picture in roughly half the space of a JPG, but Windows, many web forms, older image viewers and most printing services cannot read it. Converting to JPG is the quickest fix.

How the converter works

Drop up to 20 HEIC or HEIF files. Safari decodes them natively; every other browser loads a small decoder on your device the first time you use the tool. The pictures never leave your computer. Pick JPG for maximum compatibility, PNG if you need lossless output or WebP for the web, then download the results one by one or as a ZIP.

Which quality setting should I use?

90 keeps the photo visually identical to the original. Go down to 80 if the files are only going to be shared by email or messenger. Live Photos and burst shots contain several frames; the tool converts the main picture.

Can I stop my iPhone saving HEIC in the first place?

Yes. Under Settings, Camera, Formats choose Most Compatible and the camera will save JPG instead. The existing HEIC photos stay as they are, which is what this tool is for.
